Frequently Asked Questions

Ask me anything

What you need to know. What you don't expect. And what the sea will teach you anyway.

Two yachts. Two realities. VO65 Sisi is a beast — Ocean Race pedigree, zero comfort, full commitment. Wally Vantanera is a design icon — refined, Mediterranean, beautiful in ways that stay with you. Where the answers differ, we split them. Read the one that matches your voyage.

BASIC INFO

Charter Agreement VO65 SISI - Single Berth

Each participant is responsible for their own travel arrangements, accommodation, and meals. The crew consists of professional sailors from our team who have expertise in the VO65 and will provide instruction on the yacht, as well as international professional sailors and some clients. The entire crew will be divided into shifts at the beginning, so sleeping and sailing on deck will be done in shifts. Life jackets with AIS transponders are available on board.

We would like to reiterate that we are powerless against unforeseen circumstances. In the event of serious damage to the ship or weather forecasts that make it impossible for us to set sail (danger to people and ship), we cannot refund the costs of missed flights, transfers, or regattas. We recommend allowing at least one extra day for your return journey. Furthermore, we advise taking out travel cancellation insurance, as short-notice changes can occur during these uncertain times.

The catering (organized by us), marina mooring fee and diesel (i.e. all onboard expenses) are already included in the ticket price.

Alcohol is strictly prohibited on board VO65 Sisi.

When entering or transiting through other countries, please note that you may need visas, ESTA, residence permits, medical certificates, etc.

Please note: Changes and postponements may occur. Therefore, we ask you to wait to book accommodations, flights, etc., until you receive final confirmation from us, so that cancellations and postponements can be avoided.

Charter Agreement - Whole Boat Charter

Each charter agreement will be tailored to your needs and wishes, and will be arranged on an individual basis.

Is there a security deposit?

VO65 Sisi — Yes, but only at a whole boat charter. The deposit covers damage beyond normal racing wear and tear. If nothing happens, you get it back in full after the charter. If there's damage, repair costs are deducted and the balance refunded.

Wally Vantanera — Yes. Details are outlined in the charter agreement. The deposit covers the insurance excess and any damage that doesn't warrant a full claim. No damage, full refund.

How do I confirm a booking?

For single berth bookings, your booking will be confirmed once you have completed the booking process on the website. You will receive an e-mail confirmation right after the booking is completed. You can find what happens afterwards in the 'How does it work?' section of the FAQ. For a whole boat charter: We send you a charter agreement for signature and an invoice for the deposit. Once signed and paid, your spot is confirmed. Simple. No back and forth.

Can I charter for a corporate event or team building?

Yes. VO65 Sisi is a natural fit for leadership retreats, team building, and corporate events — nothing bonds a group faster than an offshore watch system.
Wally Vantaneraworks for more refined corporate hospitality. Get in touch and we'll build something that fits your group.

How does it work?

In a nutshell: How do the pre-boarding and onboarding processes work?

The booking process for a single berth trip looks like any other booking process. You choose what you want and do the checkout process.

After the confirmation, we will get in touch with you via e-mail until 2-3 weeks to departure. 2-3 weeks before the departure we normally set up a WhatsApp group chat with all guests, to have a faster and easier communication. You will find the details about meeting points, small changes in there.

Guest Arrival day: You will get the meeting point and meeting point via the communication channels, mail or message. After settling in, you will get a proper yacht instruction including safety, functioning of the yacht, crew and guest spaces, food, toilet and everything else you need to feel „home“.

If you are on a cruise or transfer, you will, as the weather allows, leave for the next harbor the same day. For regattas we do 2-3 sessions of 3-4 hours before the start of the regatta. Regatta starts can be quite hectic and everybody should know what is going to happen. Arrival at destination: Normally after a crew-breakfast, -lunch or -dinner, depending on the time of arrival everybody should get her/his stuff together and is free to leave. Sometimes the arrival also includes „one or two“ beers. On arrival day we normally have plenty of time, so no need to stress. Just make sure you don’t forget anything on board and soak in the feeling of the yacht. After a few days you will probably feel the need to repeat this experience, so just feel free to repeat the process and bring some friends.

Before you Book

Can you guarantee the schedule?

No. The ocean sets the timeline, not us. Weather and wind can shift departures and arrivals — sometimes by hours, sometimes by days. We plan carefully and realistically, but we don't make promises the sea won't let us keep. We can't take responsibility for disrupted flights or rebookings caused by delays.

Do I need sailing experience?

VO65 Sisi Yes. Basic sailing knowledge is required. You're not booking a trip — you're joining a crew. You'll work the yacht, stand watches, and earn every nautical mile. If you're unsure whether your level is enough, ask us. We'll be straight with you.

Wally Vantanera No. A professional crew sails the ship. You're welcome to get involved — trim a sail, take the helm, ask questions — or you can simply be present. Watch the light change. Let the coast slide past. Either way, you're part of it.

Getting there & Getting Back

Is there a packing list, that helps me to bring what I really need?

VO65 Sisi We have put together a guideline packing list to help you pack everything you need. However, this is by no means exhaustive. Everyone has different preferences. Download it here.

Wally Vantanera: Feel free to bring whatever makes you happy.

When should I book my flights?

VO65 Sisi The listed dates mark departure day and estimated arrival day. We meet at the yacht in the morning — exact time shared in advance. For your return: build in a buffer. A day. Maybe two. The wind doesn't check your itinerary. Travel cancellation insurance is a good idea.

Wally Vantanera Boarding and disembarkation times are confirmed ahead of schedule. Wally Vantanera keeps to reliable timetables on private charters. Arrival and departure can be tailored to your plans.

Will the schedule hold?

VO65 Sisi Our route planning is realistic — but reality includes weather. Delays can happen. We can't guarantee exact timing. That's the nature of offshore sailing, and part of what makes it real.

Wally Vantanera Yes. Planned routes under comfortable conditions. Adjustments happen for weather, but they rarely affect the schedule or the experience.

Where do we meet?

At the yacht. No lobby. No check-in counter. Just the dock, the hull, and whatever the horizon has in store. Exact location is shared in advance via WhatsApp or Mail.

Can I sleep on board the night before?

VO65 Sisi: Usually, yes — the yacht is typically in harbour the day before departure. Let us know ahead of time so we can try to make it work.

Wally Vantanera: As we want everything perfect the day you arrive, we need the time before your arrival. If there is an urgent need, we will find a way to make it work for you

SAFETY ON BOARD

Do I need to bring my own life jacket?

VO65 Sisi & Wally Vantanera:

No. Full new and tested safety equipment is on board — life jackets with integrated lifebelts, all of it. Your job is to show up. We handle the rest.

What about seasickness?

It exists. It happens. If you're prone to it, prepare in advance — your pharmacy will know what works for you. We carry medication on board too. For specific medical questions, reach out to our team at sail@kora-yachts.com before departure. Better to ask now than to suffer later.

What happens in extreme weather?

The professional crew has always the guest safety at their top priority. If conditions put crew or vessel at risk, we don't leave harbour — or we make for shelter. No bravado, no unnecessary risk. Safety isn't a line item. It's the foundation. In those cases, we can't cover disrupted flights or rebookings — but we'd rather have you frustrated on land than in danger at sea. Also some situations are extrem for the guest, but these are situation that are common for the crew.

Life on Board - The honest Version for VO65 Sisi

As there is no shower, how do I wash?

VO65 Sisi There's no shower. A water bottle rinse-down or wet wipes — that's what you've got. It sounds rough. It is rough. And you'll stop caring about it faster than you'd believe. That's part of the shift. Find a short video about life on board here.

Is there a toilet?

VO65 Sisi Yes. One. Using it in heavy seas takes balance and a sense of humour. Privacy comes via a curtain. It works — it's just not glamorous.

Life on Board - The luxury version Wally Vantanera

Hot showers and private bathrooms — even offshore?

Wally Vantanera Hot showers, proper bathrooms, running water. The sea outside may be wild. Inside, you stay civilised.

How many Toilets are there?

Wally Vantanera There are 5 fully equipped heads with electric flush. Comfortable, even at speed.

Other on board information

How many people are on board?

VO65 Sisi: Depending on the regatta and the transfer the professional crew is between 4-6 and sometimes even more. Plus up to 10 adventure seekers, who are here for the experience.

Wally Vantanera: Cruising set-up is 3-4 Crew plus up to 8 guests. Race mode is 8-10 crew plus the same amount of guests.

What language is spoken on board?

Working language on both yachts is English, but the team is made up of internationals who are speaking different languages.

Can I bring children on board?

Wally Vantanera: There is no age limit on Wally Vantanera. Just keep in mind it’s a yacht and has no full fencing around the deck. Kids should be aware of the risk or have to be looked after all the time.

VO65 Sisi: VO65 Sisi is a brutal race yacht, so no place for kids.

What happens with my luggage while I'm on board?

For transfers and cruising the luggage stays on the yacht and will sail with you. As mentioned above foldable bags for VO65 Sisi are mandatory.

>Wally Vantanera has enough space for all type of luggage. For In-Shore regatta, luggage should stay in the accommodation or in the bags on shore. On races with the same departure and arrival point, regattas normally offer storage space for luggage.

Food & Drink

Do I need to bring food?

VO65 Sisi No — basic provisions are included. Don't expect a menu. If you have special desires, feel free to bring something that fulfills them. We have a strictly no alcohol policy to help us keep a clear mind in demanding situations.

Wally Vantanera No. Full board — fresh Mediterranean cooking, three meals a day, prepared on board. Let us know your dietary needs in advance. For private charter, we will get in touch with you beforehand, so we can provision accordingly. You are free to have breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a Spritz on shore whenever you feel like it.

What will I eat?

VO65 Sisi Mostly freeze-dried meals, rehydrated with hot water. Fresh fruit in the first days. Granola bars between watches. It's fuel, not fine dining — and somehow, at 3am after a six-hour watch, it tastes better than anything you've had on land. Tell us about allergies and dietary needs before you board.

Wally Vantanera Breakfast, lunch, dinner — freshly cooked. Menus can be tailored: vegetarian, vegan, whatever you need. Think long lunches in the cockpit. Coastline drifting by. No rush.

What about drinks and water?

VO65 Sisi Drinking water is made on board via watermaker. Bring electrolyte tablets or vitamin powder if you want variety. Be aware that there is no fridge, no extra weight. And bring your own water bottle — labelled with your name. Non-negotiable.

Wally Vantanera Water, coffee, tea, juices, soft drinks — all on board. Basic wine, beer and cocktails are also on board. Special wishes on request. Sunsets pair well with something in your hand. We want you to have a perfect time on our vessel, so let us know beforehand, what would make the sunset even more unforgettable for you.

Can I smoke on board?

Only with explicit approval from the skipper and every other person on board. And only outside. The yacht is shared space — respect it.

SLEEPING

How does sleeping work?

VO65 Sisi In shifts. The crew runs a rotating watch system — roughly it’s a 4hour on - 4hour off rotation: 6–12, 12–18, 18–22, 22–02, 02–06. You sleep when your watch ends. When a manoeuvre calls all hands on deck, you get up, if you are still able to. After so much time with all kind of people, the crew has a sense for the guest and will respect, if you’re physically not fit to help. Earplugs are essential — it's loud below. Bring a pillow. The pipe berths are more comfortable than they look, once you surrender to the rhythm.

Wally Vantanera In a proper cabin. Double and single berths, real mattresses, duvets, air conditioning, blackout curtains. You wake up rested. That's the whole idea.

Do I need earplugs? A pad for the bunk? A pillow?

VO65 Sisi Earplugs: yes, absolutely. A bunk pad: personal preference. A pillow: highly recommended. These small things make the difference between surviving and actually recovering between watches.

Wally Vantanera None of the above. Hotel-level comfort. Everything is provided.

WHAT TO WEAR

Do I need offshore-sailing gear?

VO65 Sisi Yes. Bring at least one full set of offshore sailing gear. The ocean will test every seam and it can be cold offshore, even if it’s summer.

Wally Vantanera No. Weather-appropriate casual clothing is all you need. The crew handles the elements.

What shoes should I bring?

VO65 Sisi Waterproof sailing boots during more heavy transfers and regattas and proper sailing shoes for the summer regattas. Both with white, non-marking soles. No exceptions. The deck is your workplace and you can't step on it in flip-flops — treat it that way.

Wally Vantanera Barefoot or deck shoes. No street shoes. You probably want to feel the warm teak on your toes. Once you're on land, the possibilities are endless.

YOUR ROLE ON BOARD

Do I have to help sail?

VO65 Sisi Yes. Mandatory. Every crew member is assigned a role based on their skill level. You grind, you trim, you steer, you learn. To be honest, that's the reason why you booked in the first place.

Wally Vantanera Only if you want to. Hoist a sail, take the wheel, or do nothing at all. Your choice. No pressure, no expectations — just the option.

Can I steer the yacht?

VO65 Sisi If you've got the skill — and the skipper agrees. Helm time is earned, not given.

Wally Vantanera By arrangement with the skipper. The professional crew handles navigation, but if you want your hands on the wheel, ask. Most skippers are happy to share the helm.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

What does the price cover?

VO65 Sisi The kitty covers provisions, diesel, marina fees where applicable, a proportional insurance contribution, regatta entry fees, and life jacket rental. Not included: Travel to and from the departure and arrival location, personal insurance, accommodation at departure or arrival harbours.

Wally Vantanera The pre-arranged charter price includes crew, full board. Marina fees and diesel are charged on consumption for private charter. In single berth charter, this costs are included. Special requests — a particular wine, a shore excursion — may be charged separately, but this will be arranged beforehand in the pre-charter conversation.

What additional costs should I expect?

VO65 Sisi — Single Berth: Beyond the ticket price, you may need to cover personal travel insurance and accommodation at departure or arrival harbours. Everything on board is included.

Wally Vantanera — For private charters, an Advance Charter Allowance (ACA) covers food, drink, fuel, marina fees, and any extras during the charter. The ACA is agreed in advance — no hidden costs. Single-berth charters are all-inclusive.

Are transfers to/from the marina included?

Every guest has to arrange the travel to and from the marina. If you have troubles to find a proper solution, we are happy to assist you.

Can you help arrange accommodation, flights, or transfers?

We're not a travel agency — but we know the harours, the logistics, and the best places to stay. If you're stuck, reach out and we'll point you in the right direction.

THE DETAILS

Are there power outlets on board?

VO65 Sisi One 12V outlet with 4 USB ports. Charge strategically. There's no power grid out here.

Wally Vantanera 220V outlets in every cabin. USB in the saloon and cockpit. Stay connected — or don't. Your call.

What bag should I bring?

VO65 Sisi Soft, foldable bags only. No hard-shell suitcases — they don't fit, and they don't belong. Bring a smaller dry bag for quick-access essentials. Waterproof everything you care about.

Wally Vantanera Cabin storage fits most luggage. Soft bags are preferred, but hard cases work. Pack for the sea and the weather — not the airport lounge.

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS

What happens if I need medical help offshore?

Both yachts carry first aid equipment, and the crew is trained in emergency response. In serious situations, we coordinate with maritime rescue services on shore. If you take regular medication, bring enough for the full trip plus a buffer. The nearest pharmacy may be several hundred miles of open water away. No matter what, if there is an emergency, the crew will do everything to get you to the next possible treatment option, this also can be the medical station on a cargo ship.

Can I bring my phone? Camera? Drone?

Phone and camera — yes. Capture what you want, or put the phone away and just be there. Drones are generally welcome on VO65 Sisi and Wally Vantanera with skipper approval and local airspace regulations respected. On Sisi, anything you bring will get tossed, soaked, and salted. Waterproof protection is essential. We're not responsible for damaged gear.

Is there Wi-Fi or phone signal offshore?

VO65 Sisi and Wally Vantanera carries modern satellite communication not only for emergencies, but also to stay connected to your beloved ones. The satellite Wi-Fi is also limited, so don't count on streaming. The best part of being offshore? People really believe you, if you put the out of office message on.

How fit do I need to be?

VO65 Sisi Fit enough to function under fatigue, cold, and broken sleep for days. Think endurance, not gym mirrors. If you can handle a long mountain hike or a half marathon, you'll be fine. If in doubt — ask us. We'll be honest. Fitness is also depending on the challenge you choose. A transatlantic definitely is more demanding, than a transfer in the Mediterranean.

Wally Vantanera No fitness requirements. The yacht does the work. You're here to experience, not to perform.

Is there an age limit?

VO65 Sisi Minimum age of a solo traveler is 18. But physical condition has to match the demands of the leg. We've sailed with crew from 25 to 65 — what counts is capability, not the birthday.

Wally Vantanera No. Couples, families, multi-generational groups — all welcome. Grandparents and grandchildren on the same yacht, watching the same sunset. That's the point.

Can I join as a complete beginner?

VO65 Sisi Not on race legs. Selected transfer legs may work for motivated beginners with solid fitness and the right attitude. Talk to us — we'll tell you straight whether it's a fit.

Wally Vantanera Yes. No experience needed. The professional crew handles everything. You're here for the sea, the beauty, the story — however deep you want to go.

What's the best way to prepare?

VO65 Sisi Read the pre-departure briefing and show up fit for the journey. Just be aware that the challenge is probably a little harder than you think it will be.

Wally Vantanera Pack light. Arrive rested. Bring curiosity. The crew handles the rest.

For both: leave your expectations at the dock. The sea writes the story.

What if I want to join again?

Most people do. Once you've sailed with Kora, the sea tends to pull you back. Talk to us about upcoming legs, returning crew spots on VO65 Sisi, or planning a private charter on Wally Vantanera. The door stays open for those who've been out there.

What's the cancellation policy?

We have no one size fits all cancellation policy. Just get in touch with us, the earlier the better and we will find a solution to the circumstances.

Is there travel insurance included — or should I get my own?

There is no private travel insurance included. We recommend to get one, if you don’t have any that covers the potential circumstances.

What insurance do I need?

The yacht is fully insured. You need your own personal travel insurance — and it must cover sailing. For VO65 Sisi race legs, make sure your policy explicitly covers yacht racing. Sort it before you board, not after.

Can I book a leg as a gift for someone?

For sure that is possible. Just book it directly, we can arrange everything afterwards or just get in touch with us, if you have something specific in mind.

Should I tip the crew?

It's not expected — but it's appreciated. If the crew made your trip something you'll talk about for years, a tip is a welcome way to show it. There's no fixed rule. Whatever feels right.

Anything else?

If there is a question whose answer is not listed here, don’t hesitate to contact us and we are happy to answer it. As we are in this business for a while already, we had already everything. So there is no question that is not allowed to ask, even if it sounds stupid at first.
